As you may have read on PixelBit’s blog we recently launched an iPhone/iPad/Android game called Wrangler Rope Your Rewards. While this may have been the first game the PixelBit team developed it was not my personal first. Way back in the early days of AIR mobile I developed Happy Peg for Android using the iOS packager for Flash before it was initially banned by Apple. I was amazed how easy it was to port the web version to mobile in little over 8 hours which included graphics changes. Though it did irk me a bit the file-size was a whopping 8mb.

Not satisfied with this even today i’ve decided to rebuild it using native iOS Objective-c but with a twist. I’m not porting any of the existing code or graphics. I’m using this as a test to see how quick I can design, develop and even add some features to an extremely simple game. The reason behind this is out of pure boredom this weekend and taking a break from wedding planning.

I don’t expect it to be the next Draw Something nor would I really want it to as then i’d have to support and enhance it for all those users. I actually pride myself and my team in staying small, working on niche projects and building awesome results for some pretty amazing brands.

Oh and as a final twist i’ll be releasing the standard version on GitHub for the world to fork and build from. A simple *hat tip* is all I ask if you build something cool!

USO iPhone App on the App Store

Its pretty exciting to be mentioning my first Objective-C developed iPhone app is now available for Free, on the App Store. This app is for the USO in celebration of their “Patriotic Six” which is the six weeks of patriotism starting Memorial Day (May 31) and ending July 5th.

I got the opportunity to work on this project thanks to Media-Fuse based out of Chicago, an agency that I have worked with for a few years now.

Here is a quick screenshot of the app, be sure to download your own copy.

I am happy to FINALLY announce my first iPhone application, Happy Peg, now available on the iTunes App Store!

Happy Peg is based on the classic “peg game” that you likely played/saw in a restaurant. Its a simple concept that will keep you hooked for hours.

This version takes that classic game and adds the ability to resume a game if you get a call or decide to close the app. It also gives the ability to assist you while you play using simple hints as a guide to possible moves. You can even try to beat your best time completing the game using the in-game timer. All of the custom options (timers and hints) can be enabled/disabled in the Settings.

The application was built using Flash CS5 and the iPhone packager. I am not able to speak about specifics at this time but I can say it makes creating apps a much simpler process compared to Objective-C. For more information and tutorials on creating iPhone apps in Flash please follow Scriptplayground on Twitter. Once I am able to post code and tutorials I will have a complete guide with steps to create Happy Peg and learn the techniques to use in your own apps.
