USO iPhone App on the App Store

Its pretty exciting to be mentioning my first Objective-C developed iPhone app is now available for Free, on the App Store. This app is for the USO in celebration of their “Patriotic Six” which is the six weeks of patriotism starting Memorial Day (May 31) and ending July 5th.

I got the opportunity to work on this project thanks to Media-Fuse based out of Chicago, an agency that I have worked with for a few years now.

Here is a quick screenshot of the app, be sure to download your own copy.

Solution to 19011 error in Xcode 3.2.3

Well after downloading, re-downloading, praying and even swearing I finally found a solution to the elusive 19011 error that surfaced in Xcode this morning.

Okay, a little backstory. I have been working on an iPhone app and earlier this morning was ready to submit the app to the App Store. I quickly downloaded the certificates and provisions, created a Distribution profile in Xcode, cleaned All Targets and finally clicked Build. After a few seconds the “excitement” was replaced by that previously mentioned frustration. After much searching in forums, Twitter and even the Apple Forums I finally came up with a fix.

Turns out the most recent (if not only) cause this issue is using the prerelease version of Xcode.

After following the following steps I was able to package apps for submission once again.

Step 1: Run the following command in Terminal.

sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools

Step 2: Delete the /Developer directory
Step 3: Restart your machine
Step 4: Download and Install Xcode 3.2.2
Step 5: Open your project in Xcode, clean your project (Build > Clean All Targets)
Step 6: Rebuild your project
Step 7: zip up the .app in the distribution directory and upload using iTunes Connect

Hope this helps others… now on to build more apps.

My thoughts on Steve Jobs response

Posting this is doing nothing more than amplifying the fact he has lost his freaking mind. He is speaking many false points (as mentioned many times) and just playing to the Apple community. Then again did we expect anything else from him? I have always liked Apples hardware and software but Mr. Jobs is basically turning all “fans” against his brand… great business idea guys.

My final thoughts on this… deal with the fact Flash is not going on the devices, but not because of Adobes position on the matter. Build your apps for Android and other mobile platforms or simply go play in the walled garden and shut up. Funny part is, i’m doing just that.
